Anxiety Cycle

Anxiety

Worry, fear, nervousness, a deep sense something bad might happen, which can be triggered by a situation.

The feelings of anxiety arise

Anxiety

Avoidance

When we feel triggered by the situation it is very common to try and avoid the situation or feelings that appear

Our behaviors, thoughts and physical symptoms worsen, and become habits to where our anxiety is debilitating.

Anxiety Growth

We avoid the situation, i.e. work, school, relationships, responsibilities

Avoidance

Anxiety Growth

As we continue to keep avoiding the different situations that give us anxiety we are now allowing our anxiety symptoms to worsen and grow since our pattern of behavior continue to give us relief.

We experience temporary relief from anxiety; reinforcing or making the avoidance more likely.

Relief

Relief or Reinforcement

When we avoid triggering stimuli or situations we grant ourselves temporary relief from the feelings of anxiety; thus strengthening our response to continue to avoid.
